Hyperactive Hummingbirds

Hello friends, welcome to my blog. Today I am sharing few amazing facts about hyperactive hummingbirds.

Hummingbirds are the small birds, measuring 7.5-13cm in length. The smallest hummingbird species is the 5cm known as bee hummingbird, which weighs less than 2 g. The largest hummingbird, weighing 18-24 g.

They are specialized for feeding on nectar but all species also consume insects and spiders.

The name, hummingbird, comes from the humming noise their wings make as they beat so fast. They don't migrate in flocks like other birds, they typically travel alone for up to 500 miles at a time.
The flock of hummingbirds can be referred to as bouquet, a glittering, a hover, a shimmer or a tune. Humming birds are the only birds that can fly backwards, they have no sense of smell, while they can't sniff out feeders, they do have very good colour vision.
Hummingbirds drink nectar found in feeders by moving their tongue in and out about 13 times per second. They can consume up to double their body weight in a day.
Their tiny legs cannot walk or hop, they are only used for perching and moving sideways while perched. The average number of eggs laid by female hummingbirds is only two, these eggs are smaller than a jellybean or a coffee bean.

Hummingbirds love sweet formulas and will eat nectar and sugar water all season long. These small birds are known for their green, purple and black colours. They travel along the western coast in the US down to Mexico. Please watch the video below.
